Bordeaux Index
I want to talk about the "Bordeaux Index." The association, created in 1997, which sells in a totally innovative way the best wines from the most prestigious wineries, especially Bordeaux (which represents 75% of the volume and '85% of the value in the market of "fine wine") but also high quality wines from other regions of Europe and selected wines produced outside Europe.
The innovative approach is that the sale of wine is not made just for the sake of the drink but also as an investment. In fact, customers can use the company as a real fund managers, investing directly in the "Bordeaux Index" (this is obviously an investment in the medium-long term, generally from 2 to 5 years). The investment can be tracked by an index, called "Bordeaux Index", which is constantly updated and that it behaves like any other index, except that instead of having shares inside it has the best wines on the market; therefore it's an index that provides real-time changes in the price of best selling and prestigious wines. This system provides updated assessments of each wine and winery.
The most interesting topic for our purposes are the performances. Well, in a moment of crisis, the "Bordeaux Index" has achieved an increase of 14% in the first six months of the year, driven mainly by Asian countries (China and Hong Kong are the largest single market for Bordeaux wines) representing 45% of total sales.
